Our US Awards are an extension of that editorial commitment, built on verified performance data, allocator insight and the judgement of practitioners who have spent careers in this market.

The pre-selection data for the fund manager shortlisted was provided by Bloomberg. Candidates in all categories and asset size groupings were determined as follows:

The hedge fund manager award categories include US-based single-manager and multi-manager hedge funds with a track record of more than 3 years and over $50 million (except the Smaller Hedge Fund Category, which can be up to $50m) in AuM.

The liquid alternatives manager award categories include US single-manager funds employing a hedge-fund-like strategy outside of the traditional hedge fund structure with a track record of more than 3 years and over $50 million in AuM.

For the service provider categories, the nominated firms are based on a widespread survey of more than 500 fund managers and other key industry participants.

Nominations for all categories are based on annualized performance over a 12-month period from May 31st, 2022 to May 31st, 2023. Nominations in various award categories are further split by size and strategy as specified in the award name.

Managers will only be considered for selection if they report performance data to Bloomberg. To find out more about this process, please contact: events@hedgeweek.com.

The manager award categories include US based single-manager and multi-manager hedge funds.

Entries for all performance categories are based on the latest reported numbers and support material during the 12-month period from 1st April 2025 – 31st March 2026.

Entrants can submit to multiple fund and manager categories, but we will only accept each fund into a maximum of three categories.

All entry information will be treated as confidential and will only be shared with the Hedgeweek® expert ecosystem.

The shortlist and winners will be selected from the body of submissions verified against industry data sources.

Performance Awards Over $1bn

- Performance awards are based on a range of industry-standard performance indicators from the latest available data in the 12-month period under review (1st April 2025 – 31st March 2026)

- Funds must have a minimum 12-month track record as of 31st March 2026

- To qualify for the awards, the fund manager must be based in the US Preliminary NAV figures are acceptable at submission, with final confirmed figures to follow within 30 days.

INNOVATION & OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE CATEGORIES

The Operational Excellence and Innovation categories recognise qualitative aspects of running a hedge fund business - the infrastructure, processes, and capabilities that institutional allocators evaluate during operational due diligence.

Unless specifically outlined, there is no minimum AUM requirement for these categories

Alternative Data Use of the Year

This award recognises the exceptional use of novel data sources integrated into the investment process, generating measurable outcomes during the evaluation period.

Entry requirements

Entrants will be asked to provide information on data sources used, how this was integrated into the investment process, and to give evidence of competitive edge generated as a result.

Emerging Management Company of the Year Under $1billion

This award recognises an emerging hedge fund management firm that has demonstrated exceptional standards across investment performance, risk management, operational excellence, and client service over the period under review. Open to firms of all strategies. Firms should have AUM of under $1billion as of 31st March 2026.

Entry requirements

Entrants will be asked to submit an impact statement on why their firm should win the award.

Judges will be looking for:

Description of the firms ethos around people and culture
Description of exceptional risk management
Proof of of operational excellence

Emerging Percentage Growth of the Year Under $1billion

This category recognises percentage AUM growth year-over-year, sustainable growth trajectory, quality of capital raised and client retention alongside new capital.

The fund AUM must be under $1billion at the start of the measurement period (January 2024)

Entry requirements

Entrants will be asked to provide AUM statements for year-end 2024, 2025 and end of Q1-2026 and a short presentation file to outline the breakdown of growth drivers.

Infrastructure Build-Out of the Year

This award recognises the hedge fund manager that has made the most significant and demonstrable advances in its operational and technology infrastructure during the evaluation period — whether through a major build programme, a strategic overhaul, or a sustained investment that has materially improved the firm's scalability, resilience, and readiness for growth.

Entry requirements

Entrants will be asked to upload a presentation file which covers:

Organisational chart and key hires
Technology and operational roadmap
Third-party provider structure
Investment infrastructure relative to AUM
DDQ responses (these can be anonymised)

Institutional Traction of the Year

This award will go to the firm with outstanding number and quality of new institutional mandates won, consultant ratings improvements, pension fund/sovereign wealth allocations and institutional AUM growth.

This award will recognise the firm with quality of thought leadership, digital presence and brand consistency. Entrants will provide examples of conference presence, PR coverage quality, content marketing effectiveness, brand differentiation and lead generation metrics.

Net Flows of the Year

This category will reward absolute growth in AUM (subscriptions minus redemptions)

Entry requirements

Entrants will be asked to provide AUM statements for year-end 2024 - Q1-2026, and a maximum 250-word statement describing how the AUM growth was led by inflows rather than performance.

Rising Star Manager of the Year

This category is open to lead portfolio managers (or founders) whose current fund strategy (or firm) launched on or after 1st April 2023. Judges will assess the quality of the track record relative to fund age and differentiation of the investment strategy, early asset growth and institutional traction, and the operational foundations the manager has built.

Entry requirements

Entrants will be asked to provide a short presentation outlining their full performance track record, description of business plan and growth story.

Additionally, entrants will be asked to provide a brief personal narrative outlining their background, why they should be considered a rising star in the hedge fund world and what has shaped their approach to fund management.

Risk-Adjusted Returns of the Year Over $1billion

This award recognises the hedge fund managing in excess of $1 billion in AUM that has delivered the most compelling risk-adjusted performance during the evaluation period. The trophy will go to funds that have generated strong returns relative to the risks taken, in a manner that is repeatable, transparent, and consistent with the interests of investors.

Entry requirements

Entrants will be asked to provide full audited performance data as well as a 250-word statement explaining the investment and risk management approach.

Technology Innovation of the Year

This award recognises the firm that has made the most significant and demonstrable advances in technology during the evaluation period — not simply through spending, but through purposeful innovation that has translated into a measurable competitive, operational, or risk management advantage. Judges are looking for evidence that technology has been deployed with strategic intent and has meaningfully changed how the firm invests, operates, or protects itself.

Entry requirements

Entrants will be asked to provide a 250 word submission describing the firms technology innovation. Judges are looking for evidence that technology has been deployed with strategic intent and has meaningfully changed how the firm invests, operates, or protects itself.

Please provide a brief overview of your business (up to 100 words) and a compelling case in 250 words or fewer on why your service deserves an award.

You may also include a client testimonial to support your entry—this is optional but encouraged.

Additionally, there’s an option to upload any supporting documents that might strengthen your submission.

The Hedgeweek® in-house judging panel will select the finalists who will then go to a public vote. The overall winner will be determined based on both popularity and quality of submission.
